In this week’s issue of Grazia the power stylists of A-list Land – like the woman behind K-Stew’s magnificent makeover and the fashion sister’s styling up Solange – reveal their insider tips on party dressing and how to ace the season ahead. It’s not everyday you can get mega-watt wardrobe makers to spill the beans and today’s super stylist focus is Brit-via-L.A. Cher Coulter – the genius behind Kate Bosworth’s sartorial swagger and her many ‘It’ bags, boots and jewellery. So if you fit the modern boho bill, then Cher's wardrobe advice below will be invaluable...
Name to know: Cher Coulter is an award-winning British stylist based in Los Angeles. Her signature look is a modern take on boho chic. Minus the noughties bit. She’s also a designer; launching her own successful jewellery label JewelMint in 2010.
Names she styles: Kate Bosworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
So what’s the look? Think Isabel Marant’s low heel boots and flirty ikat-print frocks for day, and edgy frocks by new designers Altuzarra or Erdem for the red carpet. “My clients are fashion leaders on and off the red carpet,” Cher told us, “I always take bold moves and will risk a newbie designer if it fits a 'moment'.”
This sums it up: Rosie Huntington Whiteley doing her Jessica Rabbit best in edgy Antonio Berardi for the NYC premiere of Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon. Phwoarh!
Cher's labels to look out for: “For daytime I love Sandro, Maje, Isabel Marant and Asos. For red carpet – or your equivalent on a big night out – I’ll go for Preen, Balmain, Antonio Beradi, Pucci, Givenchy and Chanel.”
The item you need now: “A leather 'shacket' - think early nineties supermodel. Layer it over sweaters, throw big belt at waist and voila! Plus, you can wear it in summer with leather pants and a tank for Balmain’s look next season.”
Styling tip to try: “For super-baggy pants (like those seen on the catwalk at Celine and Theyskens’ Theory) wear a heel so you reveal a slither of foot and team it up with a dark structured jacket to avoid looking sloppy. But most of all for each season: Be yourself. Be original. Be happy.”
