Now we’re getting ready to wind down for the Christmassy period, it's time to get thinking of things to occupy you over the endless duvet days ahead. Sure the first couple of days of sofa lying in a food coma are perfectly natural, but if you are an antsy person, the in-laws, distant cousins and re-runs on telly might begin to give you a serious of dose of cabin fever.
Luckily - as ever – fashion is on hand to offer a time-consuming distraction. As part of the ever inspiring SHOWstudio’s Design Download Series, Giles Deacon has published the pattern for his iconic A/W 2007 ‘Troubadour Dress' - as worn on the catwalk by Lara Stone - allowing anyone snappy with the scissors to recreate, update and reinterpret the frock at home. And if you do devote your spare time to whipping up a new party dress, you can then enter a picture of your handiwork into a competition, the winner of which will have their dress immortalised in a fashion film to be screened on the SHOWstudio platform.
Speaking about the project, Giles tell us, “I think the pattern downloads that SHOWstudio offers are really interesting from a creative and practical level. I chose the dress from A/W 2007 as it's a relatively easy to make apart from the slightly difficult sleeve head and would work in a variety of fabrics. I can't wait to see people’s versions!”
Nick Knight, Director of SHOWstudio explains the purpose of the Design Download series is to, “give everyone, everywhere, access to beautiful fashion using the power of the internet.”
So what is Nick looking for in competition entrants? “Fashion film is all about showing off the dynamism of great clothing,” explains Knight, “so when picking my favourite entry with Giles I'm going to be looking for someone who's really put their own personality onto the pattern and created something really new. I'll be impressed by innovation.”
So a brand new frock that’ll add fizz to any festive shindig, as well as the chance for your work to be given the SHOWstudio treatment…you couldn’t ask more of Santa, could you?
