Born and bred Londoner Penny Lovell has made it across the pond as a power stylist, dressing the cute and funny Hollywood crew: that’s Rose Byrne, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bella Heathcote and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The last two names are definitely ones to watch for 2013. American beauty Mary Elizabeth stars in the already hyped The Spectactular Now which will be out next year, and Bella is one of Tim Burton’s new girls after being cast almost on the spot for Dark Shadows. Fashion ethos: ‘My goal with each of my clients is to help them express an individual fashion identity,’ explains Penny.
Favourite labels: ‘I have so many! It really depends on the client and the season but some regular go-tos are Chanel, Valentino, Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda Ilincic, Band of Outsiders and Marios Schwab. I also love H&M!’
Must have: ‘One key piece I would recommend for now is a leather pencil skirt. In black, navy or burgundy. Such a versatile piece, it can be edgy or elegant, dressed up and sexy for night or with sweater and boots for day.’
Party dressing tip: ‘I love a very bold printed and embellished dress (for example the Erdem dress Mary Elizabeth Winstead wore to the Smashed premiere in NY). Its a great look for the season and bold for winter. Pair it with sexy edgy accessories to offset the print.’
Wardrobe essential: ‘A new (yet old) wardrobe essential for this season is a black classic pointed stilletto with no platform. Patent is even better. I love Louboutin for this.’
What to avoid for spring/summer 2013: ‘Unless you are very bold avoid the head to toe geometric prints, just take elements of it (a scarf, shoe, jacket etc) and pair with simple pieces, jeans, boots, tees. Make it your own instead of letting it overtaking you.’
