Philip Treacy's S/S 2013 show was a spectacle - it was opened by Lady Gaga shrouded in neon pink who announced Philip as "the greatest milliner of all time." She then whacked on a flower helmet to watch Treacy's parade of all black models wearing vintage Michael Jackson costumes. We now have a video giving you a behind the scenes look at the show and an interview with Philip Treacy, celebrity auctioner Darren Julien and Michael Jackson's costumer Michael Bush.
Philip explains his idea behind the collection: 'It started with an African theme, I bought many tribal CDs and they were a bit folky. I love Michael Jackson and I was playing his music and 'The Way You Make Me Feel' was exactly the kind of music I was looking for, because it’s pop tribal. So I called up Darren Julien and said is there a possibility of borrowing a glove. He said well actually we’re selling 100 of Michael Jackson’s clothes would you like the clothes? And I said of course.'
Treacy also dishes on the Mother Monster as he said: "Lady Gaga is a customer. I make hats for her and she said I want to come and see your show and I said great. But she said I want to do it in a certain way and I said ok. She did it with such fun. I make hats for lots of iconic people and that makes my job very interesting, this year we did Madonna at the superbowl and I work with Grace Jones. It’s possible to work with lots of different people, what one person will wear isn’t going to be right for them."
He also talks about his love of sparkles as he talked about working with Swarovski: "I always use it every season, it’s like a highlight, a finishing touch, it brings an extra bit of glamour. Everybody loves things that sparkle."
