Tom Ford Goes Minimalist With Spring Summer 2013 Ad Campaign

Tom Ford is known for his risqué, quirky and rather sexual ads, from perfume bottles wedged in a model's cleavage and nether regions to promote Tom Ford for Men to two models showering naked for his Neroli Portofino fragrance campaign. Remember Tom was the man behind Gucci's G-campaign, which showed a model with her pubic hair shaved into the brand's G logo, with a man crouched down beneath her legs. Ooh err!

So naturally we expected that his Spring 2013 campaign would have been equally raunchy, but with the blank background and simple Tom Ford logo these shots are as paired-back as a look book. It's a new minimalist direction for the designer with no controversy, gimmicks or loud statements, so the focus is 100% on the clothes. Good job we love 'em then.

Ford's Spring collection is certainly raunchy and charged, but he told us that this season he had been exploring the relationship between chastity and perversity. “If you look too chaste, too buttoned up, you will always look a little dull, but if you go all-out sexy it can look perverse. This collection is about finding the balance.”

There is plenty of sex appeal to be found among the pieces including buckled straps, PVC skirts and over the knee boots. Remember the knee high bondage boots Anne Hathaway wore to the New York premiere of Les Miserables? This sense of chastity v perversity is explored in the ad campaign, as TF employs a clean background to showcase his bondage inspired collection.

This new direction coincides with the designer's decision to produce a full catwalk show at London Fashion Week next season rather than his usual exclusive appointments.

So what do you think of Tom Ford's minimalist Spring campaign?
