Celia Birtwell To Collaborate With Uniqlo

Celia Birtwell Uniqlo

Oh clever old Uniqlo! Fresh from teaming up with Orla Kiely, the high street giants have paired with another Brit legend – Celia Birtwell. The 1960’s designer is working on a collection that’ll hit stores on 21 March 2013 and includes T-shirts, dresses and bags in Birtwell’s distinctive print.

Together with her late husband Ossie Clark, Birtwell was basically the woman who made London Swing in the 1960’s – and beyond. They dressed fashion icons like Marianne Faithful and Bianca Jagger and attracted models like Patti Boyd to walk in their fashion shows. Their designs were so iconic that today their vintage pieces are so sought-after that Kate Moss is known to hire a helicopter to visit their C20 warehouse in Devon.

When Birtwell teamed up with Topshop almost six years ago it was the high street giant’s most successful designer collaboration – beating even that of her supermodel fan Moss.

So we expect great things for this Uniqlo line. Birtwell has said she signed up for the collaboration because of the store’s ‘terribly clever, very basic designs and great colors. You can’t misunderstand their clothing, and the atmosphere in Uniqlo shops is very peaceful.’ Well, it won’t be for long. With the pieces starting at £9.90 and a dress costing just £29.90, we’re sold!
