Men-spiration? Here Are Our 6 Highlights From This Week's London Collections: Men

Astrid Anderson AW13

Astrid Anderson AW13 finale

For the past three days London's Covent Garden has played host to the second ever stand-alone London menswear fashion week has been taking place. After sitting through the catwalk shows, exploring  presentations and shimmying our way around the parties and events, here are our highlights from London Collections: Men AW13...

SIBLING AW13 Shaun Samson AW13

1. Wildly oversized

Hats, snoods, mittens and scarves came in XXX Large at SIBLING, while giant ice hockey jumpers and puffa jackets at appeared on Shaun Samson's runway and gorgeous sportswear at Astrid Anderson – nothing makes an already-cute man look even more adorable than an enormous piece of knitwear dwarfing their features.

Alexander McQueen menswear AW13

2. Cinematic presentations

Alexander McQueen’s was almost like a creepy costume drama, with models in plastic face masks and perfectly waved slicked down hair. Reminiscent of a highly mannered costume drama – A Room with a View perhaps, or something written by Oscar Wilde. Meanwhile, Christopher Kane capitalised on his successful Boris Karloff as Frankenstein T shirts from his womenswear collections with a few more ghoulish prints – matched with some cosy looking leopard print intarsia knits, naturally.

Bobby Abley spaceship AW13

Bobby Abley's spaceship AW13

Up and coming menswear designer, Bobby Abley, who showed as part of Fashion East installations – presented space suit-clad models clutching astronauts helmets or even sitting inside a spaceship! Very retro sci-fi we thought, perhaps inspired by Barbarella or similar?

Meadham Kirchhoff mens AW13 Maarten van der Horst AW13

3. Monochrome

Black and white was a big story for Menswear AW13 – with Maarten van der Horst’s monogrammed outfits at Fashion East – to Meadham Kirchhoff punk costume drama to Christopher Shannon’s lovely wearable sporty looks.

Agi & Sam AW13 Joseph Turvey AW13 at Fashion East

4. Dogs

If any designers had been plotting ways of making their shows more social media-instagram-buzz-friendly by including dogs in their presentation, then well done! It worked. NewGen Men design duo Agi & Sam had a loveable floppy eared chap stroll down their runway (is it a Bassett Hound?) and over at the Fashion East Men’s Installations, designer Joseph Turvey accessorised his black and white dotty capsule collection with a gang of adorable dotty Dalmation pups! Woof woof!

Richard Nicoll men's AW13 Jonathan Saunders AW13 mens

5. Items we wouldn’t mind in our size too please!

Richard Nicoll’s silver hoody and overcoat combo is amazing. Plus any of Jonathan Saunders colourful coats – they were heaven!

Christopher Shannon AW13 Agi & Sam AW13

This cool outfit from Christopher Shannon – luckily it’s a girl’s one anyway. Oh – and any of the Agi & Sam collection. There are still relatively new on the scene but their gorgeous prints on traditional shapes have attracted a lot of attention to the label and big things are expected from this duo.

Anna Dello Russo David Gandy

6. Top Party Guests - David Gandy and Anna Dello Russo

Well. If you've got these two, who else do you need to make your party go with a bang? No one at all. Plus: find out what David Gandy's next move is - and why he's now embracing his Zoolander image - after we bagged a chat with the dapper gent.
