Brit designer Richard Nicoll has designed a bright, fruity Trop50 dress to celebrate the launch of the new juice drink which is called, you guessed it, Trop50. The dress is available at Atelier-To-Go.com and all the profits are also donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Grazia Daily caught up with Mr Nicoll at the pop-up store near Carnaby Street, where the new dress was modelled by Josephine de la Baume, and chatted to him about his fashion muses, his favourite young designer and what he loves about British style.
Grazia Daily: Hi Richard, can you tell us what you're up to at the moment?
Richard Nicoll: I’ve been busy creating The Richard Nicoll for Trop50 dress to celebrate the launch of Trop50, a new juice drink from Tropicana that contains 50% less sugar and calories than regular fruit juice. It’s so exclusive, just 50 have been made.
Grazia Daily: Sounds good! So let's talk fashion. Do you have a muse when you're designing?
Richard Nicoll: Not one in particular but an idea of a type of woman who might wear the collections. I always enjoy working with Josephine De La Baume, she wore the Trop50 dress at the launch event.
Grazia Daily: If you could give women one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Richard Nicoll: Keep things simple and makeup to a minimum.
Grazia Daily: Of all the women who've worn your designs, which lady were you most excited about?
Richard Nicoll: Julianne Moore.
Grazia Daily: Are there any other ladies you’d like to work with?
Richard Nicoll: Yes there are lots of women who I’d still love to wear my clothes.
Grazia Daily: What are you most proud of in your career?
Richard Nicoll: The forthcoming women’s collection.
Grazia Daily: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in fashion?
Richard Nicoll: Trust your instinct.
Grazia Daily: What young or up-and-coming designers are you excited about?
Richard Nicoll: Simone Rocha.
Grazia Daily: What's one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Richard Nicoll: I wanted to be an art director before I did fashion.
Grazia Daily: Is there a current fashion trend happening that you don’t like?
Richard Nicoll: I’m not a big fan of photo print.
Grazia Daily: What do you love most about British style?
Richard Nicoll: Individuality.
Grazia Daily: If you could give one piece of advice to anyone starting out in the fashion industry, what would you say?
Richard Nicoll: Do a lot of work experience first and work for someone else before working for yourself.
