The Swedish Labels You Need To Know From Stockholm Fashion Week

Grazia are just back from one of the chilliest fashion weeks on the calendar, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Stockholm. After jetting off to the Swedish capital, we spent three days enjoying a bevy of Scandi catwalk shows, street style and fashion show after parties, natch.

So who should you know about when it comes to Swedish labels? We’ve put together our top five designers to swat up on for next season…

Dagmar

Eight year old label Dagmar is one of the busiest, most sought after tickets at MBFWS, with a ultra-cool FROW, prime position on schedule and one of our favourite ready to wear collections of the week. The label is the brainchild of three sisters - Kristina, Karin and Sofia who this season wowed us with uber-chic loose fit leather trousers, teal coast with side split trousers (teal was THE colour of this fashion week), a sleeveless military wool coat which every FROW-er has put on their wish-list, and some seriously cool striped hair!

Stylein

Stylein was founded by its chief designer, Elin Nyström’s back in 2001 – and has found huge international success with stockists across Europe, Asia, U.S.A and Canada. For autumn winter 2013 the label has played with both masculine tailoring and more Eastern inspired feminine draping and layering – creating luxe workwear and elegant eveningwear, with a definite bohemian edge.

ALTEWAISAOME

Natalia Altewai and Randa Saome are the Scandi-babes behind this four year old brand. For winter 2013 the brand showed a collection inspired by the diverse melting-pot that is New York City, expressed in the beautiful contrast between the elbow-zip oversized cocoon knits and coats, with slim fit tailored trousers and low-slung pencil skirts. Their blingin’ crystal ear muffs were a particular hit with us.

Minju Kim

Minju was the winner of this year’s prestigious H&M Design Award - an honour judged from nineteen of the biggest fashion colleges in eight European countries. As well as getting their very own slot in MBFWS, the winner, this season Minja Kim, also won a €50,000 cash prize as well as certain pieces from her collection will be produced and sold at selected H&M stores during autumn 2013. Kim’s kooky collection included peeled back visible layers like orange-peel, cocoon shapes and deconstructed helmuts alongside fluffy jumpsuits and flippy shift dresses.

Cheap Monday

Originally launched as an affordable jeans brand in 2004, the label has now developed into a full ready to wear collection, also producing, accessories, glasses, underwear, shoes and babywear. For their autumn winter offering we huddled together on actual school benches in a gymnasium, surrounded by volleyball nets and a tape-lined zig-zag runway. We saw ‘90s style grunge with slashed knitwear and skirts over baggy trousers, alongside luxe sheer lace trousers and high-shine accessories.
