You’ve met Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s cat/diva and read Grace Coddington’s tome on Catwalk Cats but now prepare to enter a new world of properly crazy cat people. While fashion’s affinity with felines is hardly surprising – their elegance, independence and snooty disregard for others make cats cookie cutter fashionistas – the lengths some go to get closer to their pet is mindboggling.
Take Shota Ishiwatari, the creator of ‘Tailly’, a furry appendage for humans that wags when its owner is happy. Yes really. The human cat tail is attached with a belt with sensors linked to the wearer’s heartbeat and wags faster if he or she gets excited. The inventor, who raised funds for his project on Kickstarter says, “Tailly is fun to wear to parties, while out with friends or playing with kids. You could even wear Tailly on a date and express your true feelings through the wagging tail. Even better, your partner could also wear one for the both of you to add a level of subconscious communication between the two of you.” Ewww! This moggy accessory is however, not Ishiwatari’s first foray into human-feline bonding – he also worked with Necomimi to create cat ears controlled by your brainwaves.
Now you have completed your cat transformation, why not indulge in some retail therapy for yourself and your cat by snapping up one of United Bamboo’s matching cat/owner get-ups. A collection of cat ‘n’ her outfits include tartan suits, woolen dress and cocktail frocks are all available on the New York label’s website. Click through the gallery above to get the full picture.
