You might not have heard of Who’s Next Paris, but they one of the world’s leading fashion trade fairs, held in Paris. Today they announced the winners of the (not very snappily named, but very worthwhile) Who’s Next Paris x Arts Thread x WGSN Fashion Graduate Competition 2013, which is very exciting, not least if you like to feel in the loop about the fashion stars of the future.
Since all the recipients of the awards are very recent graduates, it’s unlikely you’ve heard of them, unless you’re a fashion student yourself and studied with one of them – but take a moment to remember their name as you might be seeing their work on the international catwalks in a few seasons to come.
The prize for each of the talented newcomers, is a stand at the Who’s Next Paris fair later this month – where they will be able to meet international buyers, press, stylists, even potential investors and backers (crucial to the success of anyone starting a brand starting from scratch). The panel of judges includes lunimaries from every aspect of the business, including creative directors like Kristina Szasz, the Design Director of Tommy Hilfiger and Karl Lagerfeld’s KL line, plus journalists, and even cool Brit designer in New York, William Tempest.
The list includes – Dutch menswear designer Evelien Van Prussien; Ichiro Suzuki, a menswear designer from Japan; Brit womenswear designer Chloe Reynolds, who studied Fashion Design at University College; Stephanie Oliver, also British, who studied Fashion Textiles at Ravensbourne College; Olga Malyarova, womenswear designer from Russia and creator of astonishing couture-like gowns; menswear designer Bruno Kleist of Sweden; Tak Shing Lee from China; creative Israeli jeweller Mulika Nir; Anissa Aouar, a womenswear designer from Belgium and Jessie Jie Liu from China who studied womenswear in San Francisco, at the Academy of Art University, or AAU, which is apparently one of the best fashion colleges in the USA.
The project was supported by the experts at trend forecasting agency WGSN and was facilitated by Arts Thread – ‘The world’s leading network for new creatives, bridging the gap between education and industry’. If you are a student or recent graduate in the creative arts (including but not limited to fashion) then you can upload your portfolio too at artsthread.com
