As a model, you really know you’ve made it when your very name is enough to launch a lifestyle brand. From Gisele’s Ipanema flip flops to Miranda’s KORA Organic skincare range, models with true star power can command serious profits in the lifestyle market. So what can we expect from leggy Brazilian Alessandra Ambrosio’s newly announced Alé line?
Ms Ambrosio's brand new fashion and lifestyle collection is set to be launched next spring in partnership with US label Cherokee. And instead of swanky fragrances or posh shoes, Ale will feature accessibly priced clothing pitched at the 18-35 year old market – with everything a savvy young shopper might need to emulate Alessandra’s beachy model off-duty look on offer.
"This is not a hobby for me,” the Victoria’s Secret model and face of Rio 2016 told WWD. “I've been a fashion model for 15 years and designing is just an extension of my career. I'm creating a brand that's everything I am passionate about and have experience in, from growing up in Brazil, traveling around the world and moving [to the US] five years ago,” she added. Future brand extensions are set to include jewellery, accessories, sunglasses, swim and fragrance.
For sure, models who have sported their fair share of beauty products and fashion designers are pretty well-placed to create their own industry related brands. And in terms of the figures, it definitely makes sense – just look at Heidi Klum who has supported her ‘Project Runway’ fame with a lifestyle website promoting her maternity, sportswear and footwear lines and is now worth a reported $20 million a year.
